Children, Adolescents, Families & Caregivers

Children and adolescents may experience challenges with learning, attention, executive functioning, social-emotional development, behavior, or navigating school expectations. Comprehensive Connections provides evaluations and support to help families better understand their child’s unique profile and identify effective strategies.

Families often seek support when they notice their child is struggling but are unsure why or what steps to take next. We help parents understand their child’s needs, navigate educational systems, and feel more confident advocating for appropriate supports.

INDEPENDENT EDUCATIONAL EVALUATION (IEE)

An Independent Educational Evaluation, or IEE, is an evaluation conducted by a qualified professional who is not employed by the school district responsible for the student’s education. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, a parent may request an IEE at public expense when they disagree with an evaluation completed by the school district, subject to applicable legal requirements and district criteria.

Families may also obtain a private evaluation at their own expense. When a qualifying independent evaluation is shared with the school district, the district must consider the results when making decisions regarding the student’s educational program, although it is not automatically required to adopt every recommendation.

The IEE provides families with an opportunity to obtain an objective, unbiased, independent assessment of their child’s educational needs. The evaluation helps clarify a student’s strengths, areas of need, learning profile, and appropriate supports and services necessary for meaningful educational progress.
